Donut

It's a tradition.

The first thing that a lot of people do when they learn Blender is to make a donut by following Blender Guru’s tutorial. That’s exactly what I did.

A realistic CGI image of a two donuts with pink glaze and sprinkles on a plate on a wooden table. Behind the plate is a mug of coffee. To the right is a mobile phone, face up with its screen on. The lighting is dark and you can see the screen lighting up the side of the mug.

Here are all the work-in-progress renders.

A simple CGI donut and an empty mug. The donut has the pink glaze but no sprinkles. The table is a rough checkerboard pattern. Looks like something out of Toy Story 1. You've got to start somewhere. The same situation but the lighting is a bit better and there is now liquid in the mug, though I wouldn't want to drink it. The table is now wood. The donut now has sprinkles but the glaze has disappeared. Some of the sprinklesare floating in the air above the donut. A mobile phone has appeared, though its screen is washed out and hard to see. The mystery liquid in the mug has turned to coffee. The table is now a more naturalistic, rustic wood. The lighting is now more realistic, if a bit more moody. The phone screen now looks like it's glowing, rather than being lit. The lighting has changed again. Now there's a greenish glow, as if we're eating donuts at a late night diner. Somebody's turned off this striplight now but it's still quite dark. Looking more realistic though. Definitely progress being made. It's mid-morning. The sun is bright. The table hsa rotated 90 degrees for some reason. It's night again. The lighting looks good. The phone's glow is subtle and realistic. It's overly dark but it looks good. Well done, me.
